PESHTIGO – Derrik Maye doesn’t need much of an introduction to the Peshtigo football program.
A 2013 graduate of Peshtigo High, Maye returned to the program as an assistant three years ago. Now he’s taking another step, moving into the head coaching position after Michael Berth’s departure following two seasons in charge.
When the position became vacant, the school approached Maye about taking over a program he already knew well.
“The school had contacted me, and we had a good conversation,” said Maye.
Maye wants to build on the previous staff’s emphasis on accountability and commitment, and said the early response has been encouraging. Participation in the weight room was significantly better this summer than in recent years.
