Eagles seek improvement for 2026

Posted

SURING – Expectations have changed for a Suring football team that spent much of last season learning on the job.

The Eagles return a large group of players who gained significant time on the field during a five-win season and coach Mitch Taylor believes the pieces are there to take another step forward.

“My expectations are high,” said Taylor. “We’ve got to get to the next level.”

Suring carried only three seniors last season with just one playing a regular starting role. Taylor estimated the Eagles started seven juniors on one side of the ball or the other, leaving this year’s team with considerably more varsity experience.

That includes senior quarterback Taylor Booth-Stoffregen, who split time at the position when he was a sophomore before taking over a larger role last season.

Kroix Kempka and Grant Thomson bring three years of backfield experience while Dyllan Flynn has made significant strides heading into the season. Up front, senior Karl Hischke has emerged as another player Taylor believes has taken a step forward.

The experience has changed the feel of preseason practice. Suring’s coaches spent much of last season emphasizing fundamentals and eliminating mistakes, but the Eagles showed progress as the year went along.
