Peshtigo take 3rd and 4th in Freedom

FREEDOM – Competing in the Freedom Invite on Wednesday, Aug. 28, the Peshtigo High boys cross country team turned in a cumulative score of 68 points to take third place in the small school division while the girls came in fourth with 101 points. 

“We had a good showing. It was our first meet so it was really just a test to see where our base is,” said Bulldogs head coach Derek Smith. “Now the goal is to build on what we have established and continue to improve on it. We have a great group this year and it’s going to be a fun season.”

On the boys side of things, Dominik Baxter was the top finisher for Peshtigo and 8th overall with a time of 19:03.16. Next up for Peshtigo was Eli Berndt, whose time of 19:33.26 was good enough for 10th overall, followed closely in 11th by teammate Andrew Halfmann with a time of 19:41.86.

For the girls, Rachel Nelson was the event’s second fastest competitor with a finish of 20:34.41. Alaina Archambault had a time of 25:00.52 for 16th place and Addisen Olson finished in 21st with a time of 25:16.84.

Wolverines, Blue Devils run at Gibraltar

GIBRALTAR – With 13 teams competing in Gibraltar on Thursday, Aug. 29, the Crivitz and Oconto High cross country teams had some promising finishers among the large field in attendance for early season competition.

On the boys’ side of the card, James Caine, a junior from Crivitz finished 12th out of 61 runners with a time of 19:22.46. Trenton Hartman, a junior from Oconto, took 20th at 20:23.06 while Crivitz junior Carson Weidner came in 22nd with a time of 20:37.98.

For the girls, Oconto freshman Ariana Cooper took 12th in a field of 58 runners with a time of 24:02.38. Stella Brzozowski, also a freshman for the Blue Devils, was 28th at 27:47.24 and Harper Burke, a junior at Oconto High, was right behind at 27:47.82 for 29th. 

Maroons run Dale Phillips Invite

MARQUETTE – The Menominee High cross-country team put itself up against a large field of runners at the Queen City Dale Phillips Invitational on Friday, Aug. 30.

Out of 133 runners on the girls’ side of the action, Menominee’s Winley Brandt, a sophomore, took 14th place with a time of 22:08.2. The top finisher among Menominee’s boys was Blake Bourion, a senior, who came in 44th place at 20:48.8 among 130 finishers.
