Marines start strong but falter against Eagles

Posted

MARINETTE – The Marinette High football team looked strong to begin its second Packerland Conference game of the season on Friday night against Southern Door, jumping out to an early 8-0 lead on a big run by Braxton Polzin from eight yards out to cap off a nice drive.

But the team was unable to add to that first quarter lead and the Marines’ defense, after looking very sharp on the Eagles’ first few drives, fell victim to the Southern Door passing attack, led by Drew Daust under center, and the Eagles caught up and went ahead in the second quarter 13-8 en route to a 19-8 final.

The Marines (0-2 Packerland Conference, 1-3 overall) will face a tough opponent next Friday when they play host to the Bonduel Bears, who are undefeated at 2-0 in Packerland Conference play following a 25-21 win over Kewaunee on Friday.
