Leigh J. Rupert, Sr., 77, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Rennes-East in Peshtigo. He was born June 20, 1947 to Art and Lorraine Rupert in Marinette where he resided for most of his life. Leigh graduated from Marinette High School and went on to serve his county in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969. He fought in the Vietnam War and was awarded a Bronze Star, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. Returning to Marinette he worked for Coca Cola and later Waupaca Foundry. Leigh enjoyed going up to camp, hunting, fishing and feeding his birds, squirrels and deer. He loved going to his grandchildren’s sporting events and you could always hear him cheering from the front row with his snacks. He never missed taking his granddaughter to her dance lessons and attended every recital.

My dad was known to keep you on your toes with his sense of humor. Even though he loved teasing, he had a huge heart for his family.

Leigh is survived by his daughter, Tracy Lee Barggren (Eric); grandchildren, Taylor Lee Barggren, Ethan Richard Barggren and Jacob I. Rupert; a sister, Terry Dufresne; a cousin and best friend, Jeff (Rita) Rupert; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Leigh J. Rupert, Jr.; parents, Art and Lorraine Rupert; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Sharon Rupert, Sr.; and a nephew, Mikey Rupert, Jr.

A Graveside Service with an Honors Ceremony by the Military 20-Year Club will be held at Glenwood Memorial Gardens on Saturday, September 21st at 11:00 a.m.

Leigh’s family extends a special thank you to the staff of Rennes-East and from my dad, “Thank a Vet”.
