Posted

Sharon Dian Schounard, 87, of Peshtigo, passed away peacefully at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay on Sunday, September 15th, after a short battle with congestive heart failure. She was born on December 4, 1936 to Clement and Naomi (Harper) Archambault. She graduated from Peshtigo High School in 1954 and from the Madison General Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. In that same year she married her high school sweetheart, James Schounard Jr. Sharon started her career at Marinette General Hospital. She than worked at the Marinette County Asylum, the Pel-Bar nursing home, and the Genesis II psychiatric daycare center.

While these were her formal jobs, she spent her entire life in the care of others. Whether it was taking friends or family to doctors appointments and dialysis treatments or simply visiting those in the nursing home, she was always there to lend a helping hand. Sharon was an avid reader, often reading more than one book at a time. She enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles and of course spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Bible Study Beauties, the Peshtigo Women’s Club, the Peshtigo Historical Society, the Peshtigo Library Foundation, and numerous card clubs. For a number of years, she was a curator at the Peshtigo Fire Museum.

Sharon is survived by her daughter, JoAnn (John) Dettman, three grandchildren, Jacob Dettman, Jillian (Joel) Bretl, Mary (Mike) Strege, and five great grandchildren, Lucy Dettman, Mason and Max Bretl and Savannah and Sophia Strege; and many nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends. She is also survived by two special sisters-in-law, Peggy Patz and Joyce Hart and a cherished life long friend, Lucy Gremmer Motley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Kenneth Archambault, her husband, Jim and two sons, David and Robert.

Sharon loved life, but mostly, she loved us, and that love will continue to live on in our memories forever. Lastly, she wants you to know that she was lucky, and that she had a happy life.

There will be a visitation and funeral Mass held at St. Mary Catholic Church on Saturday, September 21st. Berth and Rosenthal Funeral Home is serving the family.
