Marinette dominates at home

MARINETTE – Playing at Little River Country Club against Waupaca and Freedom on Thursday, Aug. 22, the Marinette girls golf team turned in a team score of 180 to finish comfortably ahead of the Irish with a card of 212. The Comets finished third with a score of 276.

“This is the lowest score from our program in a long time,” said Marines’ head coach Taylor Pedersen. “The girls were firing on all cylinders today and really wanted to perform well on their home course. I know we shot a 190 in 2021, and I know it’s the lowest since then.”

Kennedy Polomis turned in the best score of the day with a card of 43. Anna Marzahl and Regan Hermanson tied for third place with a 45, Kyle Vergara shot a 47 for fifth place and Bryanna Torkko shot a 58 to come in eighth place individually.

SEYMOUR – In its opening event of the 2024 season, the Marinette High girls’ golf team, playing in a competitive 15-field tournament at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Seymour, turned in a team score of 399 to finish in seventh place at the Thunder Invite on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

“Being our first invite of the year, you never really know what to expect but I am very proud of how the girls played today,” said Marinette head coach Taylor Pedersen. “They really left it all out there, but still came in with things that they want to continue to work on to be better when we play here for sectionals. Last year at this meet, we scored 51 strokes higher with the same exact team, so that speaks volumes as to where our team is at right now and how much work these girls have put in during the off-season.”

Regan Hermanson led Marinette’s five players with a 94, followed closely by Kenedy Polomis with a 98 and Anna Marzahl at 100. Kyle Vergara shot a 107 and Bryanna Torkko turned in a score of 112.
