PESHTIGO – A birthday celebration at Great Lakes Custom Tool Manufacturing in Peshtigo took on a special community spirit on Tuesday, Sept. 1, as members of the Peshtigo Lions Club gathered to cook and serve food in honor of owner Russ Martin’s 84th birthday.
Ten Peshtigo Lions, along with one community member, assisted with the celebration. Working together, they prepared and served food for those gathered at Great Lakes Custom Tool Manufacturing, helping make Martin’s birthday a memorable occasion.
For the Lions, the event was more than simply preparing a meal. It was an opportunity to put their commitment to service into action and recognize a longtime local business owner on an important milestone.
The gathering demonstrated the Lions tradition of “We Serve”—bringing people together to meet needs, build relationships and strengthen the community through volunteer service.
The Peshtigo Lions’ participation also reflects an important principle of Lionism — service does not have to fit into a predetermined category. Whether through a large community project or a simple act such as preparing and serving a birthday meal, Lions can make a difference by responding to the needs and opportunities in their community.
As Lions around the world continue to live out the spirit of “We Serve,” the Peshtigo Lions were pleased to celebrate Martin’s 84th birthday by doing what Lions do best — serving others and strengthening their community.
