Council approves new zoning plan

Posted

OCONTO – The Oconto City Council opened their meeting on Aug. 27 with a public hearing for a zoning amendment from recreational and single-family zones to multi-family residential areas near Adam St. Two residents of the area spoke against the proposal because of increased traffic flow and decreased aesthetic appeal.

One developer building new apartment complexes brought up that homes aren’t selling for profit anymore. The apartments will allow for a higher population density while keeping the price of living in mind for many residents. The developer shared his opinions that the apartments will be good for the city and businesses trying to find residence for new employees as they are more cost effective for low income residents.

A council member shared their opinion that the reality for the community is a need for an expansion in Oconto.

With a unanimous motion to approve the zoning proposal, the new plan will accommodate a larger population for Oconto.
