A taste of tradition at Rail House Restaurant & Brewpub

Posted

MARINETTE – Rail House Restaurant & Brewpub has been a local favorite since 1997, inviting customers to enjoy their outdoor beer garden, signature Wisconsin fare and award winning beers. While the brewpub has updated and expanded their operations over the decades, they have continued to blend fresh and historic offerings.

“Rail House has had a microbrewery since it was located in the old ‘spot’ building previous to 1998. When the new Rail House building was built in 1998, the existing brewing system was relocated into the new building and continued to produce beer for sale at the Rail House,” explained Ron Beyer, who purchased the business in 2005.

The old system remained in use until 2018, when the choice was made to move away from the manual system. This older style had no automatic controls, which meant that temperature, boiling times and flow between tanks was all controlled by hand.

“While our master brewer is very experienced, this type of system was labor intensive and prone to variations due to its manual controls,” he shared.

The current process is now completed from a computer-controlled steam heated system rated at 15 barrels (BBL) or 515 gallons. The previous system topped out at 7 BBL.

Additionally, the system also includes a grain grinding and transfer station, keg cleaning station and automated canning line, which produces beer for the Marinette restaurant as well as commercial distribution through Triangle Distributing in Green Bay — allowing people from all over the region to taste their award-winning beers.

“The Outta-the-Blue and our Silver Cream historic cream lager continue to be our best sellers,” Beyer said.

“The Silver Cream is a replica brew fashioned after the Silver Cream beer produced by the Menominee Brewing Company until about 1962. We have also produced a replica version of Oconto Beer which was made by Oconto Brewing Company until about 1966.”

During the summer, the brewpub expanded their historic brews with the seasonal George Washington’s Colonial Beer, based on Washington’s own 1757 military diary. A variety of other seasonal options are typically on tap, including the Summer Cream and fall Oktoberfest beer.

A few of the customer favorites that are always on tap include Queens Ann’s Revenge Irish Red, Oatmeal Stout, Imperial Pilsener and Carmel Cream, with select varieties available in 12 ounce cans and six packs.

As a local brewpub focusing on small batches, Rail House Restaurant & Brewpub is looking forward to continuing to serve the local community.

“We take pride in having been a business in our community for over 25 years and the dedication of our employees, many who have been here the entire time,” Beyer shared.

Rail House Restaurant & Brewpub is located at 2029 Old Peshtigo Rd., Marinette. For more information, visit www.railhousebrewpub.com/.
