Wausaukee Library to Host Chess Club Mar. 17

The Wausaukee Public Library is hosting a weekly Chess Club at the municipal building beginning on Friday, March 17th at 4 PM.  The club is open to all ages and knowledge of chess is not required. 

This club will teach the basics of chess as well as review moves and how to improve play.  Rules and strategies will be discussed each week.  Boards and chess pieces will be provided.

Wausaukee Lions 9-Pin Tournament Mar. 11, 18, 19

The Wausaukee Lions Club will hold their Annual 9-Pin Tournament on Saturday, March 11, Saturday, March 18 and one shift on Sunday, March 19. Both Saturday’s will have 3 shifts and starting at noon, 3 pm and 6 pm. There will be basket raffles, 50/50 raffles, strike ball raffle and a bowling bag full of booze and other prizes. Everyone is invited to come and watch the bowlers and participate in any of the raffles.

St. Augustine Lenten Fish Fries in March

St Augustine Catholic Church 507 Church Street in Wausaukee will hold there Lenten Fish Fry on Fridays, March 10, 17, 24 and 31 in the church hall from 4-6:30 pm. 

Menu includes baked and deep fried fish, baked potatoes, American fries, French fries, bake beans, soup, bread and rolls, side salads, desserts and neverages.

Abate Region 3A Chili Cookoff March 11th

The Amberg Pub will hold the 30th Annual Abate Region 3A Chili Cookoff and meat raffle on Saturday, March 11. Registration is from 1-3 pm, with judging at 3 pm. Cost is $10 to enter a chili and taste. Chili must be in a crock pot at 160 degrees with a cord to plug in and ladle. Open tasting to follow judging with free tap beer to paid participants. There will be a meat raffle all afternoon.

Barbara Johnston Celebrates 108th Birthday

Barbara Johnston, who is a resident at New Care Nursing Home in Crivitz celebrated her 108th birthday on Saturday, March 4. Approximately 30 relatives and friends attended the birthday celebration. Even at 108 years old Barbara is still well enough and alert enough to enjoy birthday cake and ice cream and take time to open gifts and enjoy the flowers she received.

Plans In Works For 2023 Marinette Co. Fairgrounds

Marinette County Fair Association had a busy 2022, and is making plans for an even busier 2023, according to the report presented by Fair Board President Mario Ruiz and Secretary Lisa Witak to Marinette County Board at its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Rau Responds To Nesberg On School Referendum Questions

At the polls on Nov. 8, voters of Peshtigo School District, by by a margin of 1,751 to 982, approved a referendum authorizing the School District to issue bonds totaling not more than $39,950,000 to finance a major overhaul and expansion of the existing high school building. The approval came after several announcements by District Superintendent Patrick Rau and others at public meetings that the property tax impact would be $29 per $100,000 of equalized value per year.

Two Marinette Police Officers Receive Life Saving Awards

After approval of February Council and Committee meetings at the Tuesday, March 7 Marinette Common Council minutes a lifesaving award was presented to two Police Officers, Max Neumann and Justin Fischer for an incident on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023.

Peshtigo Council Accepts $2.7 Million Sewer Contract

Everything appears to be in place for construction of the City of Peshtigo’s new sanitary sewer line across the Peshtigo River to begin in spring. By unanimous vote at its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 7 Peshtigo City Council  followed the recommendation of the Water and Sewer Committee to accepted the low bid of $2,668,960.50 from Advance Construction, Inc. to do the construction.

Six Vehicle Accident Scene

Emergency personnel were busy early Tuesday morning cleaning up a six vehicle accident scene just south of the on ramp coming into Peshtigo. Three semi-trailers, two cars and a pickup truck were involved. No injuries were reported. Deputies from the Marinette County Sheriff’s Department along with Lieutenant Derrick Koronkiewicz of the Peshtigo Police Department responded. Heavy wreckers were brought in to remove the semi trucks and trailers.
