Crivitz May Offer Police Chief Job To Ida Soletske

VFW Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen Competition

Crivitz VFW Post 2063 is again sponsoring two essay competitions for area students. Patriot’s Pen is a written essay competition for youths in grades 6, 7, and 8 and gives students an opportunity to express their views on an annual theme. This year’s theme is, "“How Can I Be A Good American?”. The second competition is The Voice of Democracy. This is the VFW's scholarship program and is open to students in grades 9-12 who are enrolled in a public, private, or parochial high school, or a home study program. This year's theme is “America: Where Do We Go From Here?”.

Middle Inlet Board Addresses Road Work, Town Hall Needs

At its meeting on Thursday, Sept. 9, Middle Inlet Town Board approved a project suggested by Town Chair Richard Wade to re-do a portion of Wayside Road this year, and then leave it unpaved to settle so old stumps and logs under the existing road can work their way to the top and be removed before paving is done next spring. Wade said this would be the third and final segment of Wayside Road.

National Safe Walk to School Day Oct. 6th

The School District of Wausaukee will be participating in the National Safe Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 6that 7:45 a.m. at the end of Faxton St. In order for this to happen, it will take the whole community to pitch in. This includes the Village of Wausaukee, Marinette County Sheriff's Department, Wausaukee Rescue Squad, Wausaukee Volunteer Fire Department and Lamers bussing.

BDP School District Slates Sept. 29 Public Input Meet

Members of the public are invited by Beecher Dunbar Pembine School District to participate in public input meetings  at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29 to discuss district needs in relation to how the district should use ESSER III funds. The 3:30 p.m session is a Title I Voice meeting, followed by a free lunch at 5 p.m. for those who have pre-registered by the Sept. 22 deadline, and then an ESSER III presentation at 5:30 p.m. in conjunction with a board workshop meeting.

Wausaukee Cemetery Committee to Reorganize

At the Wausaukee Town Board meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 14, Town Chair Jeff Engelmann gave update on Wausaukee Rescue Squad issues. He and officials from the other three municipalities that support the Rescue Squad had participated in a closed session meeting at Wausaukee village Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 7.
Engelmann said the group had discussed several options to get Rescue Squad Inc. board members to agree on reorganizing. Most agreed to hire a lawyer. (See related story on page 1 of today’s Peshtigo Times.)

Four Area Men Enter Eagle Scout Court of Honor Award

Four area young men from Peshtigo Boy Scout Troop 1054 were inducted in the Eagle Scout Court of Honor Saturday, Sept. 11 at Badger Park. The Eagle Scouts honored were Gabe Fugere, Griffin Knox, Nathan Krouth and Kolin Olsen. 

Ignite the Spirit to Travel Through Peshtigo Sept. 20

A group of Chicago firefighters from Ignite the Spirit Fund will be stopping in Peshtigo Monday, Sept. 20 as part of their mission of Biking to Fight Cancer. They will be biking from Chicago over the course of six days and ride over the Mackinaw Bridge. Their 500 mile ride will begin on Sept. 18 and end on Sept. 23. 

To Rebuild Cranberry Ave. Before The Snow Flies

At a brief special meeting on Monday, Sept. 13, Peshtigo City Council accepted a bid from PTS Contractors of Green Bay to reconstruct a portion of S. Cranberry Ave. from Maple to Birch Ave. at a price of $389,500. The work includes replacement of water and sewer lines, plus curb, gutter and new pavement, and the bid specifications stipulated that if the work is not completed this year the contractor will be assessed a $500 per day fine until the job is done.
