Lena School Board Finalizes Budget, Levy

At its meeting on Monday, Nov. 1, Lena School board finalized the budget as approved at the annual meeting and set the mill rate at $9.733 per $1,000 for the 2021-2022 school year as presented.   Present and voting in favor were Board President Lori Dufek and board members Charles Imig, Ed Huberty, David McNurlen and Timothy Goldschmidt.

Public Encouraged To Attend Peshtigo Town CDBG Meeting

A Pubic Hearing Notice printed in the Nov. 3 edition of the Peshtigo Times for the Town of Peshtigo was missing the date for the hearing, regarding its proposed application for a Community Development Block Grant - Public Facilities Program (CDGB-PF) funds.
The date of the Public Hearing is Thursday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. at the town hall. The public is invited to attend the meeting to hear about the CDBG program to help identify additional community development needs and to comment on the activities proposed to be included in the CDBG application.

Pound Budget Down 3.18%, Hearing Is Monday, Nov. 15

At the regular monthly Pound Village Board meeting on Monday, Nov. 8, copies of the proposed 2022 budget were distributed to board members in preparation for the annual budget hearing at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15. The hearing will be followed by a special board meeting to set the village’s property tax levy for 2022.

Peshtigo School Board To Discuss Property Purchase

Starting at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, Peshtigo School Board’s Finance, Personnel & Negotiations Committee will meet to approve bills for payment and then go into closed session to negotiate to purchase real estate property. There is provision for action after returning to open session, and and a closed session to discuss purchase of real estate is also on the agenda for the regular monthly board meeting that follows at 6 p.m. That closed session will also include Administrative/director contract review.

House Fire Claims The Life of Coleman Man

Firefighters from three area departments battled a house fire in the Village of Coleman on Saturday, Nov.6, that claimed the life of a 78 year old Coleman man. The Coleman Fire Department received the alarm at 7:40 a.m., for a structure fire at 124 Park Street, just behind Kudick Automotive. Upon arrival Coleman firefighters found smoke coming from the residence and immediately called for assistance from the Pound Fire Department and Lena Fire Department.

City Water, Sewer To Consider Peshtigo Town Water Supply

The City of Peshtigo Water and Sewer committee meeting at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11  will include a closed session to discuss Wastewater Treatment/Sewer and PFAS related issues, and the Town of Peshtigo Water Supply, and possibly confer with legal counsel. There is provision for the committee to act on either of the closed session issues after returning to open session before adjournment.

Halloween Fun

Ghosts and goblins were out in force all over TIMESland Sunday, Oct. 31 for some Halloween fun. Area communities welcomed trick or treating with special hours and other holiday activities. In the City of Peshtigo trick or treat hours were from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday and many of the adults had just as much fun as the children.

Peshtigo To Keep Tax Rate Unchanged For 2022 Budget

After nearly nine hours of deliberation at meetings on Thursday, Oct. 28 and Monday, Nov. 1, Peshtigo City Council’s Finance Committee approved a proposed budget that keeps the city’s property tax rate unchanged for 2022 by using $44,669 of General Fund reserves rather than increased borrowing for long-term expenses, which is allowed under state levy limits. If approved as expected, the total tax rate will stay at $4.995 per $100,000, as it has been for several years.

Marinette Approves 20 Year Comprehensive Plan

Prior to the City of Marinette Common Council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 2, a Public Hearing was held to repeal and re-enact the establishing of new Aldermanic districts, polling sites and Aldermanic district boundaries. 
There were no public comments from the audience and later in the meeting Ordinance #2481 was approved.

Pilot Dead In Oconto County Plane Crash

According to a news release issued by Oconto County Sheriff Sheriff Todd Skarban, on Wednesday, October 27, at approximately 6:15 p.m., the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Dispatch Center received a call in reference to an aircraft that appeared to be descending in the area of Kelly Lake in Oconto County.
