The 46th Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Football State Championships will be held Thursday and Friday, Nov. 17-18, at Camp Randall Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis.

Area Athletes Earn Medals at D3 State Track & Field Meet

Last weekend brought about the annual showcase of the state’s best athletes, the WIAA State Track & Field Championships in La Crosse. It was also a great showcase of the M&O Conference elite, with athletes from seven M&O schools taking on the rest of Division 3’s best.
Several athletes ended up on the podium. Among them was Suring’s Christine Sleeter, who took second place in the high jump with a leap of five feet, four inches. The Eagle junior was one inch short of Kallie Volk of Three Lakes/Phelps, who won gold at 5-5.

Win Over Oconto Falls
The 1-15 Oconto Falls Panthers came within six points of knocking off the M&O Conference’s top team on Monday night, with a 75-69 loss to the Coleman Cougars.
The two teams battled neck-and-neck for the entire first half, with Coleman holding a slender 27-26 lead. The Cougars stretched that lead to 36-28 just before half before Noah Hirst hit a pair of free throws to make it 36-30 going into the break.

The Lena Wildcats narrowly escaped a late 3-point barrage from Gillett on Thursday night to pick up a 43-41 victory.
Lena led 39-28 late. Cheyenne Krueger hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 39-31 with just over four minutes remaining, which would be the start of the Tigers’ run.

Maroons Hand Bulldogs Loss in Close 4th Quarter

Menominee’s defense caused Peshtigo some problems in the fourth quarter of a 50-40 win on Thursday.
The first three quarters of the game could not have been any closer. After one quarter, Menominee led 11-10. 
The Maroons led 18-14 on a pair of buckets by Brady Schultz in the second quarter, but the two teams went back and forth for the rest of the quarter, with four lead changes. At halftime, the lead was 25-24 Menominee.

Coleman Extends M&O Conference Lead

Over Oneida Nation
Coleman picked up a big win over Oneida Nation on Monday to continue its undefeated M&O Conference run.
Four Cougars scored in double figures in a 62-35 win. Aubrey Bintz scored 14, Kiersten Jensen got 12, Cameron Zeitler scored 11, and Desiree Nowak added 10.
For Oneida Nation, Jaylyn Caldwell scored 16 points and Abby House scored 13. 

WIAA Competitive Balance AD HOC Committee Met Twice After New Year

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Competitive Balance Ad Hoc Committee met Thursday, Jan 6 at the organization’s headquarters and virtually Tuesday, Jan. 18 to develop its purpose and operating principles.
The committee, which was selected by the WIAA Board of Control charged with studying competitive balance across member schools and recommend solutions, agreed to the following purpose statement that will frame the committee’s activities:

Defense Helps Marines Move Past Mustangs

You don’t see too many teams score 39 points in a high school basketball game and win by 14, but that’s exactly what the Marinette Marines did in a 39-25 defeat of Little Chute on Monday.
The Marines have won two in a row for the first time this year, and they did it with defense Monday.
After the first half, they led 14-12, pulling away early in the second half to take a 27-14 lead on a Bryanna Torkko bucket.

Marinette posted a 53-18 team win over Fox Valley Lutheran on the mats Thursday.
Marinette won seven of the nine live matches, with two forfeit wins as well.
Grace Holguin (106) and Koressa Allgeyer (113) were unopposed for the Marines, while FVL won the 285-pound weight class by forfeit.
In live action, Marinette’s grapplers won six matches by pin, with five in less than two minutes.
