PLOVER – Lena is still alive — and still refusing to go down quietly. For the second time in less than a week, the Wildcats walked off a playoff opponent in dramatic fashion, scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh to stun St. Thomas Aquinas Academy 4-3 in a WIAA Division 4 Sectional 2 semifinal on Tuesday, June 10.
The Cavaliers had just taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh and were three outs from advancing when Lena once again found a way to respond. After a leadoff groundout, Mason Spice punched a single into the outfield to put the tying run aboard. Ty Shallow followed, reaching on a defensive miscue that allowed Spice to score all the way from second and tie the game at 3-3. Moments later, with Shallow standing on third, a wild pitch brought him home for the win — the second walk-off of Lena’s postseason run.
