Gloria Meyer, 81 years of Sturgeon Bay, was called home Saturday morning November 23, 2024, in Green Bay following a lengthy illness.

Gloria was born February 23, 1943, in Appleton, the daughter of the late Rev. Sylvester and Viola (Strandes) Johnson. She attended St. Matthew Lutheran School and graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran High School. Gloria studied criminal justice at Northwestern University in Chicago.

She served many years as the Clerk of Courts in Appleton. On June 10, 1973, she married Ted Meyer. He preceded her in death on June 23, 2012. Her musical talents as pianist and organist were appreciated by clergy and congregations over many years.

Gloria was proud to have worked at various jobs leading to her career as Clerk of Courts. She started at Russell Chocolates Corp, then at Gloudeman’s Department Store-Appleton as a sportswear buyer. In Outagamie County, she began work for the Register of Deeds before being elected Clerk of Courts in 1963 until 1973.

Her first love began with music when she publicly played organ at age 15 until age 74 at various Lutheran Churches. Gloria directed many choirs from children to adults. Her direction of the local Barbershop Quartets and chorus’ led to state award winners.

Volunteering was important to Gloria, and she served as President for Marinette Hospital Auxiliary, Door County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary as President and Vice President and Treasurer for many years. She served as District President of Hospital Services after her term served in Door County.

Other volunteer services were with American Cancer, Inc. as Research and Recovery Director and Visitor Director in Marinette and Door County. Gloria also volunteered with Unity Hospice as a patient visitor.

Along with her love of music was her love for her two angels, her grandchildren, Anya and Ty. She loved all the time she was able to spend with them. Taking care and feeding of her songbirds closely followed her first two loves, along with tending to flowers and her appreciation of nature, especially trees.

Gloria was never far from her beloved fur baby, her buddy and multi poo, Teddie who was always by her and loved her unconditionally. She loved people and worked with everyone to accomplish goals with humor. Always known as a people-person with a happy disposition, Gloria enjoyed everyone in her life.

The surviving family includes her devoted daughter and best friend, Marnie Ostrand; two precious grandchildren, Anya and Ty Ostrand; brother, Timothy Johnson; sister-in-law, Karen Johnson; Ted’s children and extended family, Judy Schmidt, Jim Meyer, Louise Meyer, Debbie Spitzmacher, and Ed Meyer III and their children’ families; nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Rev. Sylvester and Viola Johnson; husband, Ted; brothers, Paul and Mark.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church with Rev. Joel Sauer officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Huehns Funeral Home on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and continue Tuesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Monday evening there will be a devotion at 6:45 p.m. to close the evening. Burial will be at Bayside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory and will be directed to places important to Gloria.

We would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Unity Hospice and Odd Fellows Nursing Home in Green Bay, Dr. Nielson of Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee and Dr. Pritzl of St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay and all her friends who she dearly loved.
