Packers’ Character Playbook Community Impact Project seeks applicants

Posted

GREEN BAY – Now in its fifth year, the Green Bay Packers’ Character Playbook Community Impact Project is inviting Wisconsin middle school students to develop service projects designed to make an impact in their school and/or community.

“The idea came from a brainstorm during the pandemic to provide students an opportunity to take what they learn through the Character Playbook curriculum and put it into action,” explained Green Bay Packers Community Outreach Manager Amanda Wery

Under the guidance of a Wisconsin school or non-profit organization, students create a service project, with selected applicants presenting the project concept to Green Bay Packers and Character Playbook representatives.

“If approved, project proposals will receive a grant award up to $500 through funds from the NFL Volunteerism Grant to help fund implementation of the project. Projects ideas could include painting and refurbishing a common area, creating welcome kits for refugee or immigrant families, planning a neighborhood beautification project, setting up a community garden and donating produce to a local food bank, or developing online programs where students can visit with younger students or host bingo with senior centers,” a release from the Packers organization stated.

“Schools and nonprofit organizations will designate a project supervisor to guide the students in their project and to serve as the communication liaison with the Packers.

“The Character Playbook Community Impact Grant program is important to us because it allows the Packers to support and encourage the ideas of our youth in giving back to the community. The program continues, because the groups of middle school students do a lot with a little and make an immediate impact in their space. The projects have varied, and it’s been great to see the activations take place throughout the state,” Wery said.

Proposals may be submitted by Nov. 1 at https://packers.formstack.com/forms/character_playbook_community_impact_grant_application_2024

Those selected will present to the Packers representatives Nov. 20-22, and the grant recipients will be notified by Dec. 2.
