The Crivitz Village Board has voted to create an Economic Development Coordinator (EDC) position to promote Crivitz and the surrounding area. I believe the cost of creating this position will ultimately fall on the taxpayers of the Village of Crivitz. The board was told that a grant would be obtained to pay for the position. That grant has not been applied for. Grants are never guaranteed and there would be a good chance that the village would be denied. The supporters of this position have also said they would use revenue generated from production of the Crivitz Guide to help pay for the EDC position. I have been involved with production of the Crivitz Guide for 13 years (since its inception) and it has never made a substantial profit. We use it to promote Crivitz and it has always been self sustaining. Paying for its production and its distribution. The proposed sources of revenue to pay for this EDC are very suspect. If they do not materialize, then taxpayer money would have to be used. If you pay taxes in the Village of Crivitz, I would contact your Village representatives or attend the meeting on August 14. This item is to be re-addressed by the board at that meeting.
