Marinette Salvation Army hosts Coats for Kids

Posted

MARINETTE – The Marinette Salvation Army is hosting their annual Coats for Kids campaign, where they accept donations of new and gently used coats, hats, mittens, scarves, ear muffs, snow pants, boots, sweaters and blankets from Oct. 7-30.

Families interested in applying for support can register via an online application at https://forms.office.com/r/uxT0stzRXa or in person at 80 West Russell St., Marinette.

Major Rhegan Stansbury, administrator and pastor of the Marinette Salvation Army alongside her husband, says serving the community is her vocation.
“For me, it’s my life’s calling. I’m very passionate about service and helping others,” Stansbury said.

While Stansbury is a lifelong member of the Salvation Army, she didn’t start serving Marinette and Menominee counties until 2018, when she relocated to the area.

“I’ve been in the Salvation Army all my life,” Stansbury said. “My husband and I moved here in 2018 and we’ve been active community members for almost seven years,” Stansbury said.

Distribution of the donated items will start on Nov. 2, at the Pine Tree Mall.
Sites accepting donations include enJOY gifts and gathering, Calvary Church, Jack’s Fresh Market, Papa Murphys, PCM Credit Union, Stephenson National Bank & Trust, Anchor Coupling/Caterpillar, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, First National Bank & Trust, First Presbyterian Church, the YMCA, Eagle Express, Good Shepherd Church and Tri County Credit Union.

“People can also bring their donations right to us, and we accept financial donations year-round” Stansbury said.

The Marinette Salvation Army has a food pantry year-round, in addition to a hot meal three nights a week and men’s, women’s and children’s programs.

There is also a youth center which is open after school and during the summer. “We have seasonal campaigns, like our Back to School program, which we just finished, where students receive new backpacks and school supplies,” Stansbury said. “We also do Christmas toys and gifts for the kids, as well as Christmas food baskets for families and individuals.”
