Loretta E. LeRoy, 91, of Crivitz, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2024, at NewCare Residence.
Loretta was born on February 1, 1933, on a small farm west of Crivitz to Walter and Frances (Maye) Glish. She graduated from high school in 1951, carrying with her the strong work ethic and creative spirit that would define her life.
On September 15, 1956, she married Damian “Skip” LeRoy, and they built their first home along the river, just one mile from where Loretta was born. They raised their three children there with Loretta devoting much of her life to making this house a home.
Loretta was a woman of many talents. A gifted seamstress, she could create anything from intricate Barbie doll clothes to elegant wedding dresses, even taking on the challenge of reupholstering furniture with skill and precision. Her artistic talent was evident in her detailed drawings and oil paintings, which often celebrated nature, with a special focus on birds. Loretta also had a love for cooking and baking that brought joy to those around her; neighborhood children often stopped by for her fresh-baked bread, cinnamon rolls, and homemade pizza, all prepared with care and generosity.
Her talents extended beyond traditional homemaking, as Loretta took on light carpentry and landscaping projects around her home, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and hard work.
After their children were grown, Loretta and Skip embarked on a new adventure together, purchasing a small tavern just down the road from their river home. They named it "Skip's Place," and it quickly became a beloved gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. Loretta and Skip ran the tavern together until Skip’s passing in 1992. Loretta continued to manage "Skip's Place" on her own until May 2018. Over the years she forged countless lasting friendships as she served up customers’ favorite drinks.
She is survived by her children, Ken LeRoy of Oconto, Aimee Barley and Noreen (Ron) Shubert of Crivitz as well as 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister Sally (Ken) Felker of South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Skip, her parents, brother, Alfred Glish, sister-in-law, Kathleen Glish and son-in-law, Jed Barley.
A celebration of Loretta’s life will be held at a later date. Rhodes Charapata Funeral Home is assisting the family.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at NewCare for the wonderful care they gave Loretta for the last years of her life.
