Laverne M. Fischer, 91 of Peshtigo, WI passed away on Saturday July 18, 2026 at Rennes Health & Rehab Center – West in Peshtigo surrounded by her family. Laverne was born on May 4, 1935 in Abrams, WI to August and Evelyn (Preslaski) Wesolowski. Following high school graduation, Laverne attended the University of Wisconsin – LaCrosse where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Physical Education and minor in Biology. On December 29, 1956, Laverne married her sweetheart since the 3rd grade, Leon Fischer in Pulaski, WI. Together they owned and operated Fischer’s Inc., trucking business and dairy farming for more than 60 years. She worked as a school teacher in the Pulaski School District in the 60’s and was a substitute teacher for more than 25 years. Laverne served on the Marinette Board of Education for many years. She was a longtime member of Faith Church in Peshtigo. Laverne and Leon were foster parents, opening their homes to many youths. She volunteered at Lake Lundgren Bible Camp and also at many area nursing homes doing Bible Studies. Laverne enjoyed gardening and canning.
Survivors include her daughter: Jane (Brian) Bettendorf of Dickson, TN; 6 sons: Gregg (Linda) of Waverly Hall, GA, Jeff (Lisa) of Suamico, WI, Scott of Big Timber, MT, Tom (Pam) of Athelstane, WI, Jay (Kristine) of Slinger, WI and Jim (Donesa) of Cedar Grove, TN; 25 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Joanna Turner of Dallas, TX and Carol Jordan of Minneapolis, MN; and brother: Gerald Wesolowski of Green Bay, WI.
Laverne was preceded in death by her parents: August & Evelyn; husband of 63 years: Leon; 1 son: John; 1 granddaughter: Ashley; 1 great-grandson: Ryder James Fischer
Visitation will be held at Faith Church in Peshtigo, WI on Thursday July 23, 2026 from 10:00 am until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 am with Pastor Jay Fischer officiating. Burial will follow in Harmony Cemetery. Following the burial, a meal will be served in the church fellowship hall. Cadieu Funeral Home, Menominee, MI is assisting the Fischer family with arrangements.
