CRIVITZ – Crivitz saw its season come to an end Thursday, May 29, in a 6-2 loss to Crandon in a WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinal at home.
The Wolverines held things even at 1-1 into the third inning, but the Cardinals broke through with a three-run fifth and tacked on two more in the sixth. Crivitz was undone by six defensive errors, which led to four unearned runs.
Colton Arpke took the loss despite allowing only two earned runs over five innings while striking out six. Jackson Schramm worked the final two frames, giving up two earned with four strikeouts.
Crivitz managed five hits on the day, including a single and an RBI from Pierce Polomis. Logan Marvin, Tyler Wene, JJ Brand and Colton Arpke had the team’s other hits.
The Wolverines finished the season 12-14 overall after placing second in the Marinette & Oconto Conference with a 9-3 record.
APPLETON – Crivitz wrapped up the regular season with a tough road loss Tuesday, May 27, falling 8-0 to Xavier in a game where the Wolverines managed just one hit.
Cayden Kirby broke up the combined no-hit bid with a single, but that was all the offense Crivitz could muster against a deep Hawks pitching staff that struck out 10 and issued just three walks.
Xavier scored three times in the first inning and never looked back, adding five more runs over the next two frames. Defensive struggles hurt the Wolverines, who committed five errors and allowed four unearned runs.
Pierce Polomis took the loss on the mound, surrendering three runs (all earned) in two innings. Stephen Allard and Colton Arpke followed in relief.
Crivitz, which finished second in the Marinette & Oconto Conference with a 9-3 mark, heads into the playoffs with a 12-13 overall record.
WAUSAUKEE – The Wausaukee Rangers couldn’t hang on to a mid-game lead Tuesday, May 27, falling 16-7 to Florence in their 2025 Marinette & Oconto Conference regular season finale.
Despite scoring seven unanswered runs across the second and third innings, the Rangers’ pitching staff couldn’t hold off the Bobcats, who erupted for 11 runs over the final three frames. Wausaukee finished the season 1-11 in conference play and 3-18 overall.
Freshman Hank Nuetzel provided all of Wausaukee’s offensive firepower, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and all five of the team’s RBIs. He also scored a run and stole a base.
The Rangers drew eight walks in the game but managed just two hits. Florence pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts and did not allow a hit after the third inning.
On the mound, Wausaukee used four pitchers. Callahan Betts took the start but recorded just two outs as Florence struck for six runs in the first. Evan Suennen was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs (two earned) over three innings. Gavin Thomson and Nuetzel also saw work in relief.
Wausaukee committed five errors defensively, and Florence took full advantage with 12 total hits and nine walks drawn.
GRESHAM – Wausaukee’s season came to a heartbreaking end Thursday, May 29, in a back-and-forth WIAA Division 4 regional playoff loss to Gresham, 8-7.
Despite outhitting the Wildcats 8-7 and leading midway through the game, the Rangers were undone by six errors and a string of unearned runs that ultimately sealed their fate. Gresham scored seven of its eight runs in the first three innings but only two were earned.
Wausaukee put up runs in each of the first five innings, including a three-run fourth that briefly gave the visitors a 6-5 lead. Luke Smith blasted a solo home run as part of a 1-for-3 day, and Evan Suennen went 1-for-3 with an RBI double, a run scored, and a stolen base.
Kayden Suennen and Andy Lawrence each contributed two hits, with Lawrence driving in a run.
Callahan Betts knocked in two runs without recording a hit, thanks to a hit-by-pitch and productive outs. The Rangers were aggressive on the basepaths, swiping seven total bags.
Kayden Suennen took the loss after allowing seven runs (just two earned) in three innings of work. Hank Nuetzel was sharp in relief, limiting Gresham to one run on one hit over the final three frames while striking out six.
Wausaukee left 11 runners on base in the one-run loss, capping a challenging season with a 3-19 overall record.
OCONTO – Oconto closed out the regular season on a high note Thursday, May 29, using a 14-hit outburst to outslug Chilton 11-8 in nonconference action.
Davis Knoll led the Blue Devils at the plate with three hits, while Garrett Goetsch added two hits and drove in a game-high four runs.
Collin Baumann and Joseph Bailey each tallied two hits and two RBIs, and Dane Helnore chipped in a pair of hits, including a triple.
Cooper Campshure picked up the win in relief for Oconto, which improved to 17-6 heading into the start of WIAA Division 3 regional play. The Blue Devils will host Manawa in a playoff opener next week.
OCONTO – Oconto opened the WIAA Division 3 playoffs with a statement win Tuesday, May 29, hammering Manawa 14-0 behind a relentless offense and a combined one-hit shutout from Devon Bostwick and Riley Susa.
Bostwick was the star on both sides of the ball, blasting two home runs and a double while driving in five runs. On the mound, he and Susa teamed up for 11 strikeouts without issuing a single walk in the five-inning mercy-rule win.
The Blue Devils scored at least two runs in every inning and set the tone early with a five-run first, capped by a two-run double from Collin Baumann. Cooper Campshure reached base multiple times and crossed the plate four times to help fuel the offensive onslaught.
With the win, Oconto improves to 18-6 and will host Peshtigo in a regional semifinal on Tuesday.
MARINETTE – A seven-run third inning blew the game wide open Thursday, May 29, as Marinette powered past Sturgeon Bay 9-1 in a WIAA Division 2 regional playoff opener at home.
The Marines sent 11 batters to the plate in that decisive third frame, capitalizing on a mix of clutch hits and defensive miscues. Wyatt Stauss got things rolling with an RBI double, Maveric Williamson and Sawyer Walters followed with run-scoring singles, and Justin Kruse doubled home another run. Marinette also scored on a balk and a two-run single by Walters, putting the game out of reach early.
Kruse was efficient and in control on the mound, scattering four hits across seven innings while allowing just one earned run. The senior right-hander struck out three and walked one to earn the complete-game win.
Offensively, the Marines racked up 10 hits. Stauss and Levi Hanson each went 2-for-3 with extra bases and a run scored, while Chase MacGregor added two hits, a run, and an RBI from the leadoff spot. Williamson also finished with two hits and an RBI. Walters, hitting out of the eight-hole, made his lone hit count with two RBIs.
Marinette advances to face Denmark in the regional semifinal. The Marines improved to 13-13 with the win.
MARINETTE – Marinette’s bats were red-hot Tuesday, May 27, as the Marines erupted for 20 runs on 11 hits in a wild 20-10 win over Gladstone in nonconference action.
Levi Hanson led the offensive onslaught with a perfect 3-for-3 day, driving in three runs and scoring twice. Chase MacGregor chipped in four RBIs, including a bases-loaded single during a five-run fourth inning that helped Marinette retake the lead for good.
After giving up a 6-3 lead and briefly falling behind 9-7 in the fourth, the Marines answered with back-to-back crooked numbers—five runs in the fourth and eight more in the fifth—to end the game via run rule. The final frame featured run-scoring hits from Ethan Doubek, Jaxon Smith, and Cooper Smith, who cleared the bases with a three-run single.
Doubek got the start on the mound and worked two-thirds of an inning. MacGregor and Hanson combined for the final 4.1 innings, with Hanson picking up the win despite allowing five runs. The Marines struggled with command at times, issuing 11 walks, but held Gladstone to just four hits.
Cooper Smith and Doubek each had two hits, and Ryker Maye scored three times out of the DH spot. MacGregor, Kruse, and Maye also walked twice each.
OCONTO FALLS – Oconto Falls capped its regular season in dominant fashion Tuesday, May 27, rolling to a 15-1 win over New Holstein behind a 12-hit offensive outburst.
Wyatt Laughrin led the Panthers with a home run and three RBIs as part of a 2-for-4 day. Chase Carriveau and Trace Brehmer each added two hits and scored twice, and Hunter Bozile went 2-for-4 with two RBIs of his own. Easton Engel also homered in the win.
OCONTO FALLS – A clean defensive effort and timely hitting carried Oconto Falls to a 6-2 win over New Lisbon on Thursday, May 29, in a WIAA Division 3 regional opener.
Jack Adler was sharp on the mound, allowing just four hits and two earned runs across six innings to earn the win. He walked three and struck out three.
Easton Engel sparked the offense, reaching base three times, scoring three runs, and driving in one. The Panthers scored all six of their runs off New Lisbon starter Tommy Fields, who allowed just two hits but was hurt by errors behind him.
