JOHN DOUGLASS HARTZ, 87 of Menominee passed away Monday May 18, 2026 at Aurora Bay Care Medical Center in Green Bay with family by his side. John was born on August 29, 1938 in Marinette to Douglass and Martha (Miller) Hartz. He proudly served his Country as an Airman 2 nd Class in the United States Air Force from August 15, 1956 until being honorably discharged on August 14, 1960. On December 20, 1958, John married Barbara Bergstrom at the Menominee Evangelical Covenant Church. John worked as a Passenger Service Supervisor for North Central Airlines, Republic Airlines, Northwest Airlines and retired from Delta Airlines. John’s interests included attending air shows, doing home improvement projects and working in his yard. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Barb, some of their favorite trips were to Alaska and Hawaii. John truly enjoyed his Honor Flight trip to Washington DC in 2023. He was a longtime member of Community Covenant Church in Menominee.
Survivors include his wife: Barbara of Menominee; daughter: Susan (Thomas) Relling of Shoreview, MN; 2 sons: Steven (Kelly) Hartz of Seward, AK and Kevin (Lori) Hartz of Greenville, WI; and 8 grandchildren: Carolyn, Raechel, Stefan, Alex, Olivia, Sonja, Lydia and Peter.
John was preceded in death by his parents: Douglass & Martha; son: Scott; and 4 sisters.
Visitation was held on Saturday May 23, 2026 at Community Covenant Church in Menominee from 11:30 am until time of Funeral Service at 1:00 pm with Reverend Linnea Ek officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery on Tuesday at 11:00 am with Military Honors. Cadieu Funeral Home is assisting the Hartz family with arrangements.
