Alphia Francis (Walters) Schmitz known to many as “Fe” or “Alphie” age 75 passed away on June 2, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Alphia was born on April 30, 1951 in Menominee, MI to Louis and Georgia Walters. She graduated from Crivitz Schools in 1969 and from UWGB with a Bachelors degree in English in 1973.
On June 16, 1973 she married her high school sweetheart Michael J Schmitz at St. Joseph’s Parish in Walsh where she was a lifelong member. They moved into his family home and made it their own. She lived life for her family, it was everything to her. She was an amazing person who always was there with a smile and kind word. She was a homemaker for the majority of her adult life but as her children aged she went to work in the Crivitz school cafeteria. There she impacted many children’s lives and made lasting friendships.
Alphia was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend but she had many other qualities as well. Alphia was an amazing baker. Her family always enjoyed her desserts. She always had a huge garden that supplied many with fresh vegetables throughout the summers. She loved to do cross-stitch, making many beautiful items for family and friends. She was a sports enthusiast spending countless hours at school sporting events cheering the teams on with her friends Wanda and Tweet. Being one of four girls her father instilled in them the love of football, especially the Green Bay Packers. Every Sunday was spent watching those games with her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Mike. Her children Brenda (Brett) Knoespel and Brian (Diana) Schmitz. Her seven grandchildren whom she adored Colby, Michael ( Andrea), Gavin, Natalie, Maleigha, Inde, and Malinda. Her youngest sister Donelle Walters. Sisters-in-law Kaye (Tom) McCaleb and Julie Nelson. Also nieces, nephew, great nieces and nephews as well many other relatives and friends whom she cared for so much.
Alphia is preceded in death by her parents Louis and Georgia Walters. Mother and Father-in-law Alice and John Schmitz. Her older sisters Theresa Remington and Yvonne Steiner. Brothers-in-law Bill Nelson and Michael Remington. Many Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 27, 2026 at SS. Joseph&Edward - Walsh Parish W3308 County Rd G Porterfield, WI 54159. Visitation will be held from 9am-11:00am with a funeral mass and burial to follow.
