Town of Athelstane Passes 2023 Budget

The regular monthly meeting of the Athelstane Town Board took place Nov. 9.
The financial meeting began at 6:10 PM.  All bills with checks numbered 18682 thru 18733 were presented to the board for acceptance and approval.
The regular monthly meeting of the town board of the Town of Athelstane was called to order by Chairman Kelly Barnes at 6:23 PM in the town hall.   All officers were present. There were 5 people in attendance.
Kelly Barnes, Chairman, verified the meeting notices were posted.  
On motion of David Jose to approve the agenda, second of motion was Denis DeJardin.  
Minutes of the prior meeting were approved.
All bills with checks numbered 18682 thru 18733 were accepted and approved.
Communications Chairman Barnes commented on concerns and fear regarding the cell tower in town.  The American Cancer Society says there is no evidence of a cell tower causing cancer.  
In Public Comment: Gary Jobelius asked if the Planning Commission could be notified if any more requests are received to construct cell towers in the future.
The Fire Department report was given by Scott Durian.  The department had one meeting and two training meetings.  They had a call for a gas leak, a garage fire, another gas leak, trees on wires on Northway Drive, a car versus an ATV accident and power lines down on Smiley Road.
Scott Durian gave the Planning Commission report.  They approved a variance request.  Information was gathered on cell towers and it will be discussed at a later meeting.  They also had a 3-town meeting with Silver Cliff and Amberg.
Greg Reinhardt gave the Treasurer’s report: September 30, 2022 Balance $477,691.94, Receipts $73,156.54, Disbursements $289,325.90, Month ending Oct. 31, 2022 $261,522.58. There was $14,067.64  in Checking, $55,722.80  General Money Market, $191,660.31  Tax Money Market, $71.83  Local Gov’t. Investment Pool.
Scott Durian gave the Highway report.  Shouldering work is being done and grading will be done and then preparing the equipment for winter.
In New Business, On motion of Denis DeJardin and second by David Jose to adopt the 2023 Proposed Budget was approved.  
A variance request  was approved from Gary and Janice DuChateau to create two new lots that do not meet the minimum requirement of 2 acres and 150’ of road frontage.
The meeting adjourned at 6:48 PM.
