Susan J. Hummel

Susan Jean (Tyborchek) Hummel, 81, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at home in Daggett, Mi., surrounded by her family. She survived breast cancer twice and fought valiantly against brain cancer until her passing.

Born Nov. 29, 1941, to Esther Jane Freeman and Edmund Tyborchek of Racine, she married Andrew Strazzinski and they had three children together, Mark, Jeff and Lisa who all served and retired from the United States Air Force. She married the love of her life, Dewane on Oct. 18, 1986.

She worked at J&I Case Company of Racine as a Stenographer and was promoted to Private Secretary of the Vice President. After moving to Daggett, she became a housewife and sold Tupperware, quickly becoming a Manager of Sales. She then worked at the Bank of Stephenson as a Bank Teller and was also Holmes Township Treasurer. She became certified as a nursing assistant where she found her calling in caring for people.

She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and family get togethers. They both loved to travel in retirement, visiting friends and family and spending winters in Mission, Tx. where they were activity directors for many years, but most importantly was her relationship was God and her Faith. She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Stephenson, Mi., was active in WhiteWater Ministries and His Hands Ministries of Texas and a huge supporter of her granddaughter Amanda (Trickey) Jimenez and her husband Efrian, Pastor of their Church, Calvary Isla De La Piedra, Mazatlán, Mexico.

Survivors include a sister, Nancy Rapalee of Vince Grove. Ky.; two sons, Mark (Miriam) Strazzinski of Hutchinson, Mn. And Jeff (Denise) Strazzinski of Benton, Ar. and daughter, Lisa Strazzinski (partner, Anthony Parris) of Daggett; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewane Hummel; a brother, Jim Tyborchek and her mother, Jane Tyborchek.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 18 at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home in Stephenson from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:30 a.m. at Precious Blood Catholic Church., with Fr. Edward Baafi officiating. Burial will be in Spring at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Banet.
