Suring Annual Meeting Approves Tax Levy

At the Annual District Meeting held on Monday, Oct. 24 electors of the Suring School District approved a budget of $7,311,071. The tax levy was set for the 2022-2023 school year with a General Fund levy of $4,857,549 and a Community Service Fund 80 levy of $70,000 for a total of $4,927,549.
The levy will require an estimated mil rate of .00612716, which comes to $6.13 per $1,000 of assessed value. The October 2022 recertified equalized valuation of the district was$792,789,775.
Voters also authorized the sale of equipment no longer needed by the district, approved  reimbursement of school board members for expenses when traveling outside the district in performance of duties, and authorized the Board to furnish breakfast and lunch to students in grades PK-12 at a cost set by the Board and pay any deficiency which may result from these programs.
School Board salaries were set as follows: President, $2,000; Clerk, $1,950; Treasurer, $1,850, and other members, $1,800.
The 2023 Annual Meeting will be on Monday, Oct. 23 at 5:30 p.m.
The next regular meeting of the board will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at  5:30 p.m. Discussion items for the board include the nursing contract, compensation for van drivers, school resource officer and board goals. Nursing hours and approval of a memorandum of understanding for the school resource officer are listed on the for possible action by the board.
