Ronald D. Holmes

Ronald Dwight Holmes, 81, of Amberg, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at home on Wednesday May 24, 2023.

Born Feb. 12, 1942 in Norway, Mi., to the late Dwight and Mildred (Anderson) Holmes, he graduated from Wausaukee High School in 1960 and then served in the United States Army from 1964-66 with a Tour in Vietnam, earning a Marksman Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Rifle M-14 and Vietnam Service Medal.

While carrying out his time in the National Guard, earning a 20 year military career, he worked at Pitney Bowes for 32 years. He served on the Amberg Town Board as Supervisor 1 for 12 years, started the hunters safety program in Amberg from 2004-2020, was an Elder at United Ev. Presbyterian Church in Amberg and taught concealed carry classes for 15 years. He was also on the Wausaukee Rescue Squad Board and was an American Legion Member for over 50 years.

He enjoyed playing his guitar to Country music, was an avid Cribbage player and to those who knew him, he had a quiet sense of humor and always researched every project he was a part of.

Survivors include his loving wife, Margery; five children, Patrick (Julie Jack) Holmes, Jennifer (Scott Ehricke) Fredriksen, Darhla (Gary) Plamann, Joni (Brett) Fessler and James (Sarah) Manders and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Brody; a brother, Gerald; two sisters, Karen and Leatha and a step-daughter, Kathy.

Visitation was held at United Ev. Presbyterian Church in Amberg on Wednesday May 31 from 9 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Don Landwehr officiating. Burial was in Amberg Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #428. Roubal Funeral Home of Wausaukee assisted the family with arrangements.
