Roger Lanich – Letter to Editor

An Open Letter to the Democratic and Republican Parties
Both parties have a large membership with many young, energetic, bright people with new and bold ideas. So why is it that every election cycle you trot out the same clown car of candidates with nothing new to offer? They flounder around, never telling us what they’d do if elected. Instead they just demonize their opponents. What would happen if for each office the voters were offered the choice of None of the Above? I think the number of voters making that choice would be astounding. We are citizens of the United States. We can do better than this. Can’t we?

“Autumnal”
At the end of summer’s light
Beyond the meaning of the sun
Stars shine in the approaching autumn
And watch the earth succumb.
Beaming down upon the land
And the fields of furrowed soil
Reminding the earth it’s changing
And it’s the end of summer’s toil.
For another season is ending
And a new one will soon begin
When songbirds and flocks of geese
Return southward with the wind.
Leaving behind the barren fields
And the red and golden trees
To those they left behind
In the cooling breeze.
For the autumnal is upon us
Like a ghost in the night
While the sun goes into  hiding
Behind the moon’s silent light.
