Robert J. Koehn

Robert J. Koehn, Jr., 87, of Marinette, passed away Monday May 6, 2024, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay after a brief illness.

He was born January 10, 1937, in Menominee to Robert J. Koehn, Sr. and Ellen (Van Court) Koehn. Bob was a lifelong area resident and a 1955 graduate of Marinette High School. Bob married the former Sharon Poquette of Marinette on September 6, 1958.

He played basketball during his Army enlistment years, avoiding KP duty in the process. His employment career was notably with the former First National Bank of Marinette where he began work as a teller and advanced to the position of bank Vice President. He later worked for several area finance companies.

Bob loved sports, both as a spectator and a participant. He was a naturally gifted athlete. He held the single season scoring record at Marinette High in basketball. Bob played Legion baseball, receiving the Bronze Legion Award after high school. Other sports he enjoyed include tennis, ice and roller skating and bowling.

Beyond participating, Bob was a basketball referee for many years starting in the 1950s, and eventually hanging up his whistle at age 77. You could also find him at almost any Marinette Marine game, home or away. He took great joy in watching the next generation of his relatives competing and coaching. Bob believed in giving back to the community and was a member of the Lions Club for many years.

He was a longtime member of Little River Country Club in Marinette. It was the first-place family would look for him. Over the years he was club champion several times and competed in every tournament held in the area with his close group of golfing friends. He would tell you about every shot on every hole if you let him. He scored three holes in one and shot his age every year starting at age 64.

As a dedicated Packer fan, when he heard new seats were being built, he put his name on the waiting list. A few months later, he received two tickets in Section 36 which he held for over 50 years. Yes, he was at the Ice Bowl, the original Lambeau Leap, and all the highs and lows over those decades. He always enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Bob is survived by two sons, Randy (Kris) Koehn of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Jeffrey Koehn of Glendale, CO; two grandchildren, Kaona Koehn (fiancé, Asa Dunbar) and Ronald Koehn; one brother, Roger (Mary Lou) Koehn of Green Bay; a sister-in-law, Dawn (Ken) Wingender also of Green Bay; a brother-in-law, Terry (Carol) Poquette of Jackson, WI and numerous nieces and nephews.

For the past 15 years, Marlea Spaude has been Bob’s special companion, getting each other through difficult times of their lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and in 2008 by his wife, Sharon after fifty years of marriage.

Visitation was held at Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home in Marinette on Friday, May 10th beginning at 3 p.m. Services followed at 6 p.m. with Deacon David Denby officiating. Burial was in Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette.
