Peshtigo Drops Season Opener to Roncalli 4-0
Peshtigo’s soccer campaign began with a 4-0 defeat to Roncalli on Tuesday.
Jets juniors Sawyer Pitz and Matthew Bonin each scored twice, with three goals coming after halftime, to pull away from the Bulldogs.
Peshtigo coach Sam Wargula was happy with how physical his team was, saying, “This game was a great game as far as physicality goes. They played hard, I thought we played a bit harder, which was great.”
What Peshtigo is missing is a little bit of scoring. While the Bulldogs have eight seniors, none play striker, Wargula said.
“Learning that has been tricky, but it’s a good team and if we can solve the scoring problem, we’re going to be dangerous,” he said.
The Bulldogs have 23 players listed on this year’s roster, a good size for the program.
Next up is NEW Lutheran at home on Thursday, with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m.
