To the Organizers and Volunteers of Peshtigo Historical Days and Visitors to Goffe’s Company of New Hampshire’s encampment:
All too often we hear about the bad things happening in our country. Peshtigo Historical Days showed us that there is still a lot of good happening. As presenters for Goffe’s Company of New Hampshire, we saw organizers working hard to make Peshtigo Historical Days a fun event for everyone in the Peshtigo community. We know many volunteers worked hard to make the event run smooth and saw the scouts and their leaders on the grounds early Sunday morning removing debris.
And the visitors. You proved that there are a lot of good people in our country.  We were impressed with the visitors who spent time listening and asking questions to learn about the French and Indian War and the time period. Parents, you proved that you value educating your children with hands on experiences. Your patience as your children participated speaks volumes for the love you have for them. The Peshtigo community rekindled our faith in this great country’s future and proved it is a great place to live.
We look forward to attending the 151st Peshtigo Historical Days.

To the Peshtigo Historical Day Committee and citizens of Peshtigo:
For the past 8 months I have had the pleasure of working with a great group of individuals that have been organizing and hosting Peshtigo Historical Day for the past 8 years. They are not the type of people who do it for recognition, but I feel it  is important  to let them know how much we appreciate what they all do. I have gotten to know them over the past months and have come to respect the time and energy they put forth for the city residents and surrounding communities to commemorate the country’s deadliest forest fire. When you see the following people please give them a shout out and let them know their hard work was greatly appreciated.
I will start with the biggest parade Peshtigo has ever had. Behind the scenes there was a great deal of coordination 90 plus entries, which Kris Karpowitz parade director did a fantastic job. Kris has been the director for the parade for the past six years. Kris put forth a great deal of energy advertising, compiling entries, responding to the entries, arranging the order of the floats, marking the floats locations prior to starting and when the time came to start, he personally guided them out in order.
The next four people were co-chairs husband and wife teams, Steve & Richelle Kaempf and Joe & Jamie Nystrom. For the past six years they have had their assigned duties as well. Steve Kaempf has been in charge of the Car Show. His job consisted of advertising for cars and this year’s Horse & Buggy Show and sad to say we had no entries. It was a banner year for entries into the car show where so many people shared their pride and joy for others to enjoy. Steve’s wife Richelle wore many hats.  She was in charge of all the food vendors. Receiving letters from vendors that wanted to participate and answering them back, hosting vendor meetings to go over details and locations.  Probably one of the most important job on Saturday Richelle was Incident Commander. If anyone had a question large or small it was Richelle’s job as the IC to solve problems as they came up. She was the lady in the bright orange vest holding a radio. Joe & Jamie Nystrom also wore many hats and have been a member of the Historical Day Committee for 8 years. They were in charge of hiring the various bands to perform, so listeners could sit and enjoy the afternoon’s music, ordering the beverages, the banners that displayed business support from the community and surrounding communities as well.  Joe &  Jamie also had the task of  securing fun things such as the climbing wall, jump houses, bungee jump, face painters, fishing vendor and most importantly fireworks which were a huge success. Jamie was also in charge of all the financials. She maintained the checkbook and made sure the bills got paid.
A newcomer this year to the committee, Kelsey Lossett was in charge of the Craft Vendors. Kelsey’s job was to advertise for crafters that make homemade items and layout their assigned locations.  Kelsey also participated in meetings held at the park to go over the layout of the park for all events and communicating with vendors who wanted to participate.
I lightly have touched on a few examples on what the committee members do. Think of the time spent on making phone calls, emails, meetings, travel time and compiling everything to share with other members.
I think it is important for people to know who these individuals are that give selflessly of themselves and their family time for the community. I have witnessed firsthand the hard work, dedication, and commitment these individuals displayed with the end result a huge success.
Thank you again for all you do.
Sincerely,
Cathi Malke
Peshtigo Mayor

“The Coloring of the Trees”
Autumn has come to the forest
Coloring all the trees
With shades of reds and oranges
Yellows and burgundies.
It paints the leaves so brightly
As if nature had a brush
That it becomes a magical playground
For the squirrels and the thrush.
And there I sit in wonder
Surrounded by this dream
Entranced in all it’s beauty
As the sunrise starts to gleam.
Reflecting off the leaves
Creating a kaleidoscope of shades
Dispersing like a spectrum
Through the forests and the glades.
There must be something magic
In all the beauty that charms me
Or maybe this is a gift
From Heaven for all to see.
