Neon Detour taking a music detour

PESHTIGO – Bands at Badger welcomed Neon Detour to the stage on July 10.

The band started when two sets of brothers, Dennis and Joe Sievert and Aaron and Adam Mullins, decided to form a band together in the summer of 1994. Later that summer, they added lead singer Brian Shepeck. “After many practices and several beers, we decided Neon Detour was the best name for our band. Anyone who wanted to detour into the neon lights after work would be treated to some good country music,” explained Dennis Sievert. The band has been playing in the Marinette and Menominee area ever since.

One Sievert bother, Dennis Sievert, sings in addition to playing guitar and banjo. Brother Joe Sievert plays the drums. The Mullins brothers are both vocalists for the band, along with Aaron Mullins on the bass guitar and Adam Mullins on lead guitar, fiddle and harmonica. Brian Shepeck stepped in to perform lead vocals and guitar for the band. Members of the band come from Menominee, Mich., Porterfield and McAllister.

However, other musicians from the community have stepped in to perform throughout the years. Neon Detour wanted to thank the short-term members that stepped in, including Matt Beaudo, Tom Vojcihoski, Jesse Peterson, Aaron Brill, Steve Barton, Chuck Johnson, Dave Fries, Kevyn Lange, Wyatt Aderman, Matt Johnson and more who played with the band for any extended length of time.

Bands at Badger have been welcoming the band since it started in 2008. Sievert said, “We have enjoyed playing music for 30 years in the area, trying to give our followers the best music they want to hear by taking requests and playing them if we can.” The Neon Detour set list included Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Lynard Skynard and CCR, along with other artists and songs. Sievert said the band tries to play a wide variety of music to please everyone in the audience as they perform. “We can cover what everyone likes to hear,” stated Sievert.

Neon Detour will have other dates this summer for community members to watch them perform live. For more information about Neon Detour or where they are performing next, go to their Facebook page.
