Marinette Senior Center activities

MARINETTE – The following events and activities will be offered throughout the month of July. 

Craft Activities

There will be two painting classes in July including a watercolor and acrylic class. 

The acrylic painting class will be offered Monday, July 29 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The cost for members is $35 and the cost for nonmembers is $40. 

The watercolor painting class will be offered Monday, July 31 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The cost for members is $35 and the cost for nonmembers is $40. 

Registration and payment is required in advance for both classes. The classes are limited to eight people. For more information or to register, stop into the office or call at (715) 732-1280. If unable to attend, call to open the spot for someone else. 

Diamond painting is also offered on Thursdays from 10-11:30 a.m.

Special Historical Field Trip

The tour to Stephenson Island on Wednesday, July 17 from 10-11:30 a.m. for a morning filled with local history and reminiscing with friends. There will be a tour of the Marinette County Historical Logging Museum. This local historical gem is not the museum seen in the past with new exhibits, historical pieces and more. This is an opportunity to learn more about the local community’s rich historical past. Registration is required in advance because space is limited. Contact the front office during business hours at (715) 732-1280 to register or more information. 

Fitness Activities

Line dancing is offered on Tuesdays from 9:30-11 a.m. which can help improve balance, coordination and enhance memory. The cost is $2 per class, paid to instructor.

There will be a new session of classes taught by Tammy Veith, including Monday Chair Yoga at 9 a.m., Tuesday yoga Pilates at 4 p.m. and Thursday Beginner Yoga at 4 p.m. The current session will run through July 25. A new session will begin the week of Aug. 5. Call the front office at (715) 732-1280 during business hours for prices. Registration and payment is required in advance. Classes may not run if there is less than seven participants register. 

The Women & Strength Program runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Senior Center from 8-9 a.m. and is sponsored by  Advanced Wellness and Physical Therapy. A new session will begin on July 16 and will run for 24 sessions. The cost is $35 for 24 classes. For more information or to register, contact the Senior Center at (715) 732-1280.

Finally, the walking group meets on Thursdays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. The group will meet at the Mary Hofer Walking Trail at the hospital on July 11 and 25. The group will be at Hennes Park-Pavilion 1 on July 18. Should inclement weather arise, walking will be at the Community Rec Center located at 2501 Pierce Ave. Self-led most days. 

Foot and Blood Pressure Clinic

The Foot Clinic courtesy of Almost Friday Foot Clinic, held on Thursdays, July 11 and 18 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. with a cost of $15 per person. Clients will need to soak their feet 20 minutes prior to their appointment. Registration is required in advance. Register at the center or by calling 9715) 732-1280. 

Compassus Grief Support Gorup

Compassus Hospice offers a drop-in grief support group that is helpful in grieving the death of a loved one. They meet every fourth Thursday from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Marinette Senior Center – 1603 Ludington St., Marinette. The next meeting date is Thursday, July 25. No pre-registration required. Mondays will include Pokeno from 10:30-11:30 a.m., followed by Farkle from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and Smear from 11:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m.

Tuesdays and Thursdays will include the Pinochle group from 11:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m.

Wednesdays start with Bingo at 10:30 a.m.-noon and then Hand and Foot in the afternoon from 12:30-2:15 p.m.

The Majong group invites new participants for their weekly games on Thursdays from 12:30-2:15 p.m.
