Lee A. Hettinger
Lee Arthur Hettinger, 75, passed away at home with his wife by his side on December 9, 2021.
He was born on June 25, 1946 in Chicago to the late Leroy and Isabelle (Weeks) Hettinger. Lee graduated from Taft High School and went on to earn his BA in Education from Northeastern Illinois University. He taught Junior High Social Studies for many years at schools in Chicago’s northwest suburbs.
His creative teaching and genuine interest made him a favorite of his students. Former students, seeing and recognizing him years later, would call out, “Mr. H!” and hurry to update him on their families, jobs, and lives.
Lee married Karen Ronn on September 22, 1990 at the Porterfield Lutheran Church. He let her know every day that she was loved, spoiling her with little gifts and surprising her with post-it love notes. Lee loved ‘old stuff’, hunting for treasures at garage sales, flea markets, antique stores, and auctions. He enjoyed cleaning and restoring his finds. Some of which he kept, some of which he sold to other treasure lovers.
Relatives and friends may call at the Beaver American Lutheran Church from 10AM until the time of the service at noon on Saturday, December 18th. Pastor Christina Forsythe will officiate. Lee will be laid to rest in the Church Cemetery. Rhodes Charapata Funeral Home of Coleman is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family would like to thank Unity Hospice for their compassionate care.
