John LewandowskI

John Lewandowski, 81, passed away Monday, Nov. 29, 2021, surrounded by family. He was a beloved father, husband, grandfather, brother, and uncle. 

Born March 24, 1940, in Poland to Maria and Stanislaw Lewandowski, together with his family, he moved to the United States in 1949, settling first in Chicago, then in Wausaukee, where he grew up on a small farm. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with degrees in Russian and German. 

He taught at Homestead High School in 1968 and taught Russian and German language, World History and was the Homestead Chess Club Coach for many years. 

After retirement, he enjoyed traveling and hiking. He and his wife Karin spent many months and years traveling all over Europe. They particularly enjoyed time every spring in Italy where he became proficient in Italian in addition to the other four languages he already spoke. 

He is survived by his wife Karin; two children, Kent and Norbert (Courtenay); two brothers, Stanley and Roy (Val); two sisters, Sophie and Harriet (Tom); a granddaughter, Georgia and many nieces and nephews. 

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Wausaukee at a later date.
