Jennifer Friday - Letter to Editor

Dear Editor,

It is imperative that Town of Peshtigo residents understand what is on the April 4th ballot. A change in Town leadership is needed to preserve resident choice. A Water Utility District is the current Town Board’s initiative; a project that is estimated to cost up to $91 million for our Town of 4000 residents as reported by Wisconsin Public Radio. Strand Engineering’s report that was presented February 2022 categorizes Phases of development with Phase 3 identified as the “Town Ultimate Buildout.” Strand Engineering stated during the most recent Board Meeting consideration had not been given to community wells as they would not allow for the expansion that the current Town Board is looking for. What does that mean? It doesn’t matter where you live. It doesn’t matter your level of PFAS contamination. You WILL be included in a Water Utility District. You WILL lose your private well. Municipal water IS in YOUR future . . . with this current Town Board.

Are Town residents ready and willing to give up their private wells for treated municipal water complete with a water bill and higher taxes? Are Town residents ready and willing to put blind trust in the current Town Board to act in the interest of residents rather than the self-interest of the Town Board?

OR . . . do Town residents want to be involved in decisions that are going to directly impact them? Do Town residents want to feel as though they have a seat at the table in decision making? Do Town residents want to be in control of their own water destiny? Do Town residents want information to be forthcoming rather than hidden behind closed session meetings and denied FOIA requests?

TWENTY-FIVE closed session meetings . . . of which information was shared that ONLY Town Board members are privy to. Those same Town Board members have since taken that information and engaged in their own personal injury lawsuit against Tyco/JCI as well as other engineering firms. Is it well within their right to do so? Of course! But not with information that has been withheld from Town residents behind the guise of closed session meetings. Unless we have a personal relationship with one of the Board members in the form of relative or friend, the average Town resident would NOT be able to file the same personal injury suit with information that is had by the current Town board.

Vote April 4th – for open government, for integrity, for resident choice. Vote for YOUR right to have a seat at the table. Vote for YOUR right to know what discussions are being had, what decisions are being made. Vote for YOUR right to keep your well. Vote for YOUR right to NOT have a water bill. Vote for YOUR right to have a choice in your water destiny.

VOTE April 4th for Jennifer Friday, Clarence Coble and Jimmer Wortner. Vote for CHANGE. Vote to SAVE OUR TOWN.

Respectfully submitted,
Jennifer Friday

Candidate for Town of Peshtigo Chairperson
