Isthmus Brass Christmas Show at Blesch Dec. 10

River Cities Concert Association presents a Christmas show featuring the Isthmus Brass, Wisconsin’s premiere large brass ensemble. They will perform at Blesch Auditorium in Menominee, on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 7 pm. This concert is sponsored by Sara Jane Feifarek.
Named for the strip of land between the lakes of Mendota and Monona in Madison, the Isthmus Brass is a 12-piece brass ensemble with percussion that was established in 2009 as some of the most high-profile brass players in the region looked for a way to collaborate and perform together. They initially decided to put their energy and talents toward performing charitable Christmas concerts especially for the Porchlight Homeless Charity and at retirement homes in Madison. Through this annual tradition the group has raised over $100,000 for charity.
Under the direction of brass-icon John Stevens, the Isthmus Brass also tours professionally year-round at concert series and music festivals throughout the Midwest. The Isthmus Brass Quintet and Percussion is a subset of the larger Isthmus Brass and often gives performances at many smaller venues and provides a teaching component in masterclass settings. Both groups strive for energy, entertainment, and eclecticism in their virtuosic repertoire—much of it especially arranged for them.
The Isthmus Brass has earned international acclaim through the release of their two wildly diverse holiday CDs. "What a terrific Christmas Album!” writes Barry Kilpatrick of American Record Guide in his review of Isthmus Brass Christmas. “The nicely varied program includes traditional Christmas carols and pieces, festive pops orchestra-style works, and big-band-style selections, all in winsome arrangements and played superbly. I've heard lots of Christmas Brass albums over the years—this is one of the best."
The group will bring this same musical diversity to Blesch concertgoers with their 2022 holiday program. They will perform classic Christmas carols and orchestral works dating back to the fifteenth century as well as many sentimental favorites from the more recent past such as “We Need a Little Christmas,” “Jingle Bells,” and “Baby It’s Cold Outside.” Their big brass sound and unique arrangements will put you in the holiday spirit!
Single tickets will be available at the door: $25 for adults and $8 for students. For more information, please contact Barb Akins by calling 906-863-7387 or visit
