Home Community and Education Titanic presentation

MARINETTE – The Home Community and Education (HCE) had a presentation on the Titanic on April 23 in the multi- purpose room in the building behind the courthouse. Garry Parrett retired teacher from the Wausaukee Schools gave a talk on the Titanic.  He told of a model he has that depict all the boats parts in miniature. He gave facts about the boats trip in the Atlantic. He also had a table of Titanic memorabilia. The women were given 20 true or false questions to test their knowledge. He described the life on the boat and how much food was loaded to feed the passengers.  Hope Reines and Beth Bruce and their friend Bernie Burg, put on a fashion show of three dresses wore in the period.

HCE is a group of men and women who enjoy learning about life and how to provide education to its members and any area people willing to learn. They do community help like their trading program called Bookworms where four area schools receive a set of seven books given to the 4K children.  Ladies read to the class for seven months and the children take home a book each month. The students enjoy the interaction with the readers. They have a forest in Beecher that was planted by the early Homemakers and is maintained yearly by the group on a workday in the fall.

Throughout the year they have projects that help them learn about life. Interested in joining call Hope at (715)687-4466 or any HCE member.
