Financial Literacy Is Important

Ezra Harrison, second grade student at Goodman-Armstrong Creek Schools shows M&M Area Community Foundation Executive Director Paula Gruszynski his Financial Literacy Notebook. Teacher Kylie Wahl (not pictured) taught a lesson about saving vs spending as part of the Future Fund children’s savings program established by the Community Foundation. Starting with the 2019-20 school year, kindergarten students across Marinette and Menominee Counties have a $50 deposit-only savings account started for them by the Foundation. Then, each year until graduation the Foundation adds more money to each student’s account. Savings accounts may be used for any post-secondary education or training upon graduation from high school. The Community Foundation established the Future Fund program to benefit all students across Marinette and Menominee Counties. The Foundation has a goal of raising $2,000,000 to permanentlyendow this Fund. In order to reach their goal, the MMACF continues to seek donations from community members.  Contributions to the Future Fund may be made online at www.mmacf.org. Checks may be mailed to the Foundation’s office at 1110 10th Avenue, Suite L-1, Menominee, MI  49858.
