Eight Oconto County Supervisors Will Not Seek Re-Election In April

The Oconto County Clerk’s Office has reported that eight of the Oconto County Board’s 31 supervisors had filed declarations of non-candidacy prior to the filing deadline on Friday, Dec. 24. Deadline for filing nomination papers to be on Wisconsin ballots for the non-partisan elections in April is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 4 of 2022.

Supervisors who have announced that they will not be seeking re-election for terms to begin in April of 2022 are Elizabeth Paape, District 4; Robert Pott, District 6; Fran Wranosky, District 9; Karl Ballestad, district 11; Rose Stellmacher, District 15; Lowell “Buzz” Kamke, District 17; Paul Bednarik, District 22, and Gregory Sekela, District 23.

Several of the supervisors who have chosen not to run for return to office are veterans with many years of experience on the Oconto County Board.

Incumbents are required by law to file declarations of non-candidacy by the deadline, but there is no legal penalty for failure to comply. However, if an incumbent does not file a Certificate of Non-candidacy and fails to file nomination papers, the deadline for filing nomination papers for that office is automatically extended an additional 72 hours. The incumbent does not get the benefit of the deadline extension, but can still run as a write-in candidate, provided all other requirements relating to candidates are met.
