Eagles Beat Rangers to Open M&O Play

Suring’s 1-3-1 zone made life difficult for Wausaukee in a 68-35 on Tuesday night, with the Eagles starting M&O Conference play in the win column.
The game was close for about a quarter of the action, with Wausaukee leading 10-7 early on a bucket by Danny Suennen.
Ethan Lally tied it up with a 3-ball for Suring, and the Eagles would never trail again. From there, they went on an 18-2 run to take a 28-12 lead on a score by Maxwell Yancy. At halftime, it was 30-17.
“I thought defensively, we did a great job early on,” Wausaukee coach Jon Betts said. “I thought we played great defense for the first half of the first half, but you’ve got to score points. We were at 10 points about halfway through.”
Yancy scored the first points out of halftime, and Suring quickly opened up a 46-20 lead.
It was all Eagles from that point on, as Wausaukee struggled to generate offensive momentum.
“We’re struggling taking care of the basketball, we’re struggling shooting, we’re struggling to do everything offensively,” Wausaukee coach Jon Betts said. “It can be frustrating, but we’ve got to keep working.”
Layne Rowley shouldered a lot of the scoring load for Wausaukee, finishing with 17 points. Suennen, the Rangers second-leading scorer in the game, scored five.
Suring got 18 points from Trent VanDenElzen, 13 by Yancy, and 12 from Lally on four 3-pointers.
“It was a good night for us. It started off a little slow. We had to get a feel for the game a little bit, but once we figured it out, we started to roll a little bit, got the 1-3-1 going,” Suring coach Joe Lojpersberger said. “Offensively, we had to find a couple different ways to move the ball around, but we did pass the ball well, and once shots started falling, they seemed to keep falling.”
Quinn Thomson added 11 points, nine of which came in the second half. Trent Thomson scored five.
Suring (3-0 overall, 1-0 M&O Conference) visits Saint Thomas Aquinas Academy on Friday, with the game scheduled for 7 p.m. STAA is 2-1 overall but lost its M&O opener 77-9 against Crivitz on Tuesday.
Wausaukee (0-3 overall, 0-1 M&O) will look to get on track when Gillett comes to town on Friday at 7:15 p.m. The Tigers are 2-1 overall but have yet to start conference competition.
Big First Half Pushes
Peshtigo Past Sevastopol

Peshtigo beat Sevastopol comfortably on Thursday, riding an early wave to a 68-24 victory.
By halftime, Peshtigo led 45-13, with Kaine Fort’s 10 points and eight each by Kavin Kleikamp and Landon Beyer leading the offensive charge.
“We took good shots. We were moving the basketball, we got the shots we wanted, and it helps when the first couple go down,” Peshtigo coach Jason Boucher said.
Fort finished the game with a game-high 19 points, with the 6-foot-9 forward having his way in the paint.
“They were a little outnumbered, outmatched. We were a lot bigger than them, the first time in a long time we’ve been bigger than a team,” Boucher said. “I thought we passed the ball excellently tonight. Everyone passed the basketball, we rebounded well, and I was happy with the effort of our guys tonight.”
Kleikamp ended the game with 11, and Peyton Demmith, Mason Doberstein, and Beyer each finished with eight. A total of 10 different Bulldogs were amongst the scoring.
“I thought everybody that played tonight did a good job, 1 to 13, not just our first five, six, seven guys,” Boucher said. “I thought everybody that we inserted into the game did a heck of a job. They played Peshtigo basketball and that’s what it’s about.”
Bulldogs Rally in
2nd Half For Win
Over Eagles

Peshtigo just “wanted it more” than Southern Door in a 65-56 victory on Tuesday night, Bulldogs coach Jason Boucher said.
The Bulldogs trailed 31-28 at halftime, but made up the deficit and then some in the second half.
Standout Southern Door sophomore Drew Daoust would get his points, scoring 29 for the Eagles with the help of five 3-pointers, but Peshtigo overcame his scoring in a couple of ways.
“We competed for 36 minutes. We wanted it more than them, dove for all loose balls, took care of the basketball and played unselfishly,” Boucher said. “Daoust is a heck of a player and we did pretty well switching on him. He’s tough to stop. Our effort on him was good. He still had 29 though.”
Peshtigo’s leading scorer was Mason Doberstein, who scored 18 points. He made two second-half 3-pointers.
Kaine Fort scored 16, Grant Bauman scored 11, and Landon Beyer finished with nine. Will McMahon‘s seven all came in the second half.
Peshtigo (3-1 overall, 2-0 Packerland Conference) welcomes Sturgeon Bay (2-3, 1-1) to town for a 7:30 p.m. matchup Friday.
