Donald Wayne Smith

Donald Wayne Smith entered heaven after battling cancer on Oct. 9, 2021. He was born on Feb. 12, 1943, in Muscatine, Iowa, the third child of Marlyn and Thelma Smith. Don accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of fifteen. After graduating from Muscatine High School, he graduated from Tennessee Temple College and Seminary. While at Tennessee Temple, he met and married Gloria Sue Ratliff (Susie) on Aug. 12, 1967, with whom he enjoyed 54 years of marriage. He later received his degree in Secondary Education at Pensacola Christian College. Don taught in Christian schools for over 25 years; his final four years of teaching were at Faith Christian School in Coleman.

Don loved to teach the Bible, whether in school, Sunday School, or to his children at home. He also loved reading about and teaching history, as well as collecting postcards of historic and beautiful sites around the world. He fostered a love for learning in his own children and multiple generations of school students.

Don is survived by his wife, Susie, their five children, Jan (Richard) Keller, Julie Wing, Joel (Jessica) Smith, Joshua (Sarah) Smith, and Jenny (Jacob) Michalski. He loved his seventeen grandchildren and his great-grandson. He is also survived by his siblings: Richard Smith, Glen (Marsha) Smith, and Donna (Terry) McLaughlin; and in-laws: Kay Poston, Joy (Tom) McGraw, and Roberta (Bob) McKenna.

A Memorial Service was held at Twin Cities Baptist Church in Marinette on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 6:30 pm.  Visitation was held from 5 pm until the service.

For the past several years, Don has faithfully attended Twin City Baptist Church in Marinette, and served with the Gideons, distributing Bibles. The family asks that donations be made to the Gideons in memory of Don.
