A recent Facebook video made a false statement that I would like to address, specifically that the current Town Board lowered your property taxes by 1.5%. The Town Board did NOT lower anything! Property taxes paid to the Town went down because of tax limits put on by State government in 2006 which froze the amount of tax dollars the Town could get from its residents. The State allows a % increase each year based on a formula that takes into account growth within the Town. Each year in October the State informs the Town the allowable dollars the Town can tax for the upcoming year. As the Town total property values increase the allowable tax dollars are spread over more value which lowers the tax payable by property owners. Since 2006 the tax has been set at what is allowed by the State, including the past 2 years, so the property tax decrease has NOTHING to do with the Town Board’s alleged fiscal responsibility.

As far as other big ticket issues impacting our Town residents, I strongly agree that clean water, air, and soil are very important. I believe that can and should be accomplished with the Town Board working with the State and responsible party with  no cost to Town residents. How we get to that point is where the problem lies. I do not believe operating behind closed doors is the way to keep those affected in the loop. Open discussions need to happen so ALL information is available to ALL the affect4ed residents as well as ALL Town taxpayers. Additionally I know full well that there are plenty of other issues impacting our Town aside from PFAS and it’s time we get back to dealing with the Town as a whole rather than a select few. The ENTIRE Town deserves representation!

We (Jennifer Friday, Jimmer Wortner, and myself) will be holding a question and answer session at Embers, County Hwy. B, Peshtigo, on March 29th, at 5 p.m. and hope you will join us.

It takes ALL 3 to make a positive difference for our Town!

Thank you,
Clarence Coble
