On Wednesday, Jan. 11 I along with over 100 people attended the Peshtigo School Board meeting. My plan was to sit back and listen to what everyone had to say about the taxes going to the school district. After weeks at City Hall, I have listened to many people express concern over being misled about what the true amount the taxpayers will end up paying. Many said it will be very difficult for them to come up with the money to pay the taxes and still live in their home. During time for public comment I decided to say a few words.

It breaks my heart to hear people state they were going home to start cutting daily items to save money. I know it is hard for some people to ask for help, but I am going to put a list of resources at city hall which has different agencies contacts that are ready to help. The information will be on the counter at city hall.

Most everyone is aware when I was sick two years ago, life couldn’t get much worse. Our daughter passed away and my sister that is ill moved into our home so we could help take care of her. And on top of all that my husband, Carl, was raising our granddaughter. Needless to say he was very overwhelmed. He reached out for help from Marinette County’s different agencies and with their expertise assisted Carl with his needs. My point, these individuals are there for us and they are good at what they do.

The State of Wisconsin is also offering different assistances for heat and rent. I will also put copies of these forms on the counter for you to take and look at. I would also like to offer help filling forms out if needed.

I know with inflation and other unforeseen costs, know there is help and please don’t hesitate to ask.
