Bulldogs Shutout by Clippers in Packerland Matchup

Peshtigo was beaten handily Thursday by Sturgeon Bay, which is traditionally one of the premier opponents on the Northeastern Wisconsin soccer scene.
Since 2015, the Clippers have beaten Peshtigo 12 consecutive times, including three 10-goal victories. On Thursday, it ended 9-0.
Sturgeon Bay scored its first goal in the ninth minute, with Isaac Schulz the scorer.
Two minutes later, Gavin Fernandez doubled the advantage, and within 10 minutes of the first goal, the score had ballooned to 5-0.
“I thought we had about seven minutes, eight minutes where the game was even, if not ours until the first goal,” Peshtigo coach Sam Wargula said. “The first two goals were a mistake for the most part. Really kind of trash goals. It does happen, but it’s disheartening nonetheless. When one happens, more are bound to come.”
The Clippers scored two more goals by halftime, and then got two in the first seven minutes of the second half to finish the game off.
Fernandez and Schulz, both senior forwards, each scored twice for Sturgeon Bay.
Wargula was confident after the game that his team is close to hanging with teams like Sturgeon Bay.
“They’re a decent team. Nothing that overly scares me. If I had a bit more experience on my team and with myself and everything else, we could have hung with them,” he said. “If we played like we did the first seven minutes for the rest of the game, we could have hung with them. I always feel like my team can kind of hang with everybody should we just kind of click things together correctly.”
The Clippers are having a down year by their standards, with six wins, six losses, and two ties so far.
Peshtigo is 2-6. The Bulldogs get Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy on Thursday.
Marines Fall to Waupaca, Tie
Lux-Casco on the Pitch

Marinette wasn’t able to create the offensive chances needed to beat Waupaca on Tuesday, falling 2-0.
Waupaca scored on two impressive shots, Marinette coach Jason Smerchek said, so he was fairly happy with how his defensive unit played.
“We struggled to create chances in the final third. They scores on two nice shots, otherwise the defense and goalie played well,” he said. “Hopefully we can come out on Thursday, regroup, and get a win.”
The Marines (4-6-1) face a winless Green Bay West team Thursday at home.
Marinette tied Luxemburg-Casco 1-1 on Thursday evening.
The Marines got their lone goal from Dominic Smerchek.
