Bulldogs Fall to Tigers In WIAA Playoff Opener
The Peshtigo soccer season ended with a 2-1 loss to Howards Grove/Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah on Tuesday. Peshtigo was down 1-0 at halftime. The Bulldogs lone goal came off a Grant Bauman penalty kick from just outside the box to tie the game at one a piece. The Tigers answered with a goal at the 10 minute mark which proved to be the game winner.
“It was a tough game”, said Peshtigo Coach Sam Wargula. “Miserably cold and very windy. We had the confidence we could perform against them but in the second half we just failed to play to our level.”
The Bulldogs were a No. 17 seed and their opponent was seeded 16th in the opening Division 4 playoff round.
Howards Grove/Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah advances to face No. 1 seed Sheboygan Christian/Sheboygan Lutheran on Thursday night.
The Bulldogs lose just one senior, Bauman, to graduation. They have eight juniors on this year’s roster.

The Bulldogs trailed 2-0 at halftime, and with Peshtigo comparitively short on subs the Clippers ran rampant in the second half to win by eight.
“The second half we didn’t have the capacity to keep with them and the goals came quick,” Peshtigo coach Sam Wargula said, adding that his team came out with the goal of having fun and frustrating their opponents, which he felt they did.
“We left with smiles,” he said.
