American Legion and VFW Posts sponsor Badger Boys State Participants

CRIVITZ – This June, three students from Crivitz High School will attend the annual Badger Boys State on the campus of UW- Eau Claire.  Sponsored by American Legion Post #413 and VFW Post 2063 of Crivitz, and American Legion Post 476 of Loomis, high school juniors Nolan Pomeroy, Phillip Angel and Brock Banaszak will join approximately 750 young men from across the state from June 9-15 during which they will experience organizing and operating their own government. The goal of this program is for the future leaders to develop a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation.  Participants are elected to serve in city councils, county boards, the state legislature, and as the governor.   As alderman or county supervisors they will frame, present, and pass their own ordinances and laws; their own police and sheriffs will enforce them. As attorneys, they will prosecute or defend, or as judges, hear cases in their own courts. Last year’s attendee, Ethan Butnick, had nothing but praise for the program.  Upon returning, Ethan remarked that “Badger Boys State is an experience that you can’t sit back and watch happen. You have to get involved and make it happen the way you want it to be.”  There is no cost to participate and transportation to the campus will not be a barrier to attend; the post will pay mileage to and from the Eau Claire campus.  The program leaders encourage students of all backgrounds, identities, and socioeconomic status to attend.  The selection process prioritizes equal opportunity and strives to convene a group of participants that is representative of Wisconsin.

If you are a high school junior interested in participating, contact your school counselor or Post Adjutant Bob Kleba at (715)938-2049, for an application form.  Successful applicants will be notified in writing of their acceptance.  The official deadline for registering is April 15 but late registration will be accepted if there is room.  For more information, go to
