PESHTIGO – The Green Bay-based band Rocker played at Bands at Badger on June 12. The 60s and 70s classic rock band includes keyboardist and vocalist Doug Cayer, guitarist and vocalist Rick Schilke and drummer and vocalist Paul Wylmet. Cayer and Schilke are founding members, and Wylmet joined the band in July 2016.

Although the band is not from the area, Rocker has performed in Marinette and Oconto Counties for many years, including Bands at Badger since it started in 2008. “The acoustics are perfect no matter what because it’s outside. It always really sounds really well,” stated Doug Cayer.

When asked what his favorite part of performing is, Cayer said, “We like performing enough to make our living at it for a long, long time. It never gets old.” Rocker’s song list includes a wide variety of music, including songs from AC/DC, Beach Boys, Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Cheap Trick, Foreigner, James Brown, Jimmy Buffett, Kinks, Led Zeppelin, K.C. & The Sunshine Band, Rush, Stones, ZZ Top and more.

The name - Rocker - was suggested by the band’s former drummer, and they have kept it ever since. The Rocker! Rocker! Rocker! which appears on posters, is the band’s trademarked logo used for events.

Cayer said that Rocker is well known in Peshtigo and remembers their 250 concert attendants at last year’s Bands at Badger event.

Rocker sold 50th-anniversary t-shirts during their performance to commemorate the band’s history of performing together since May of 1974.

Rocker will perform at a variety of locations this summer, including their nearest upcoming performances on Thursday, June 13, at Hilbert Civic Park from 6:30-10:30 p.m., Saturday, June 15 at the Brazeau F.D. Picnic from 6-10 p.m. and Sunday, June 16 in Shawano from 4-8 p.m.
