16th Annual Chinookie Slam Fishing Tourney

The 16th annual Chinookie Slam Fishing tournament was held Aug. 19th on the open waters of Green Bay sponsored by Great Lakes Tackle and Outfitting and the Edgewater Sports Bar.  A brisk South wind and tall seas greeted the anglers at the 6 am shotgun start.  The wind held most of the boats close to the starting point as the event was shortened by two hours and crews needed to be in by 12 noon for weigh in.  Fishing had been relatively good up until the heavy south wind which flipped the water temperature and caused the fish to scatter and become tight lipped. Anglers were challenged with relocating fish as most had moved out of the waters which had been previously holding fish.

Team Busch captained by Tom Schultz caught the largest salmon of the event which propelled them to 1st place in the overall weight category. The fish hit a Great Lakes Tackle and Outfitting Headhunter spoon in 55 feet of water.  Second place went to Tim (Pie) Kempka aboard the Cherokee along with Casey Doyle and Brandon Jagielski.  Third place went to Skipper Tyler Jacques aboard Big Mac.

An awards ceremony was held after the weigh in at the Edgewater Sports Bar.  It was welcomed by many of the anglers after fighting a day of large waves and a tough bite.  Great Lakes Tackle and Outfitting and A&K Sport shop donated several items to the event which were given to the participants.
